I Learned It The Hard Way
A few years ago, I walked into a big event with the same thought many smart, ambitious women have: “I need to make this count.”
I had prepared. I had my outfit. I had my schedule. I had the right badge. I wanted to be “efficient.”
I met someone important. Then another. Then a group. Then a panel. Then a meeting. Then a dinner. And within the first hour, my energy started leaking.
You know that feeling:
- You say “yes” too quickly because you don’t want to miss an opportunity.
- You are constantly scanning the room to now miss out on people or content.
- You talk to five people, then can’t remember the name of the second one.
By evening, I had a handful of business cards and a strange heaviness in my chest. In the hotel room, I sat on the bed and thought: “I did everything right… so why do I feel like I disappeared?”
That was the moment I realized: I had been present everywhere, except in myself. And that is the biggest risk at big events. You don’t lose your time. You lose your energy. This is exactly what big conferences do.
So here is the shift that saved me:
I stopped attending conferences like a collector…
and started attending them like an energetic leader.

The Real Problem Isn’t Networking. It Is Your Nervous System
Most people think networking drains them because they “talk too much.”
That’s not it.
Networking drains you when you go in with your energy wide open – trying to be impressive, useful, interesting, likeable… and somehow memorable in under 30 seconds.
That’s not networking. That’s performing.
WEF in Davos is just one example. It’s intense, loud, fast, and full of people who are used to playing the “high performance” game. But the truth is: this happens at any large event, leadership conferences, industry summits, investor meetings, company retreats, even award nights.
Big events drain you because your brain is forced into constant switching.
- Switching topics.
- Switching energy.
- Switching roles.
- Switching attention.
And in the middle of that, you are expected to be sharp, charismatic, quick, interested, and confident.

That’s not a conference skill. That’s an energy skill. And once you understand that, everything changes. Because now the goal isn’t “meet as many people as possible.”
The goal is: To keep your energy clean, so the right people can actually feel you. .
Your Conference Energy Survival Kit
At conferences you are not only processing information, you’re processing energy.
At conferences you are exposed to thousands of micro-signals: urgency, status, insecurity, ambition, fear, hope, power plays, genuine connection. You can be in a great conversation and still walk away feeling oddly drained, not because it was “bad,” but because your system picked up more than your mind noticed.
And if you don’t know how to manage that, three things happen fast:
- Your clarity drops.
- Your presence gets thinner.
- You start saying yes/no from pressure instead of truth.

So here are the 9 Energy Hacks to stay sharp, grounded, and clean in your energy without adding another “routine.”
1) In The Morning – When You Get Up
Don’t go to any conference or event with your energy field open. Right in the morning, after you made yourself ready thake a moment to ptrotect your energy. Just follow this simple process:
- Close your eyes
- Imagine yourself standing a a golden energy bubble
- Set the intention: I feel safe and my energy is protected
- Open your eyes and feel the difference
Why it matters: Energy vampires have no chance. They will feel the protection shield around your energy.

2) Decide What You Are There For – Before You Enter
At big events, there are thousands of people. You cannot connect deeply with all of them. So decide: Who are “your people” at this event? Not by status. By fit.
For example:
- one person type (e.g., “people working on longevity”)
- one outcome (e.g., “one meaningful follow-up”)
- one feeling (e.g., “curious, grounded, inspired”)
Why it matters: Your energy needs a direction, otherwise it scatters.

3) The 20-Second Arrival
Before you enter a conference or meeting room, stop for two breaths.
One hand on your chest (or just feel it).
Ask: “What do I want to transmit in there?”
Choose one word: calm / clarity / courage / curiosity.
Then walk in as if you already are that.
Why it matters: It stops you from being “pulled” by the room.
4) Lead With Presence, Not Speed
The fastest way to stand out in a crowded room is not to be louder.
It’s to be fully there.
Slow your first sentence by 10%.
Hold eye contact one second longer than feels normal.
Ask a real question and wait for the answer.
Why it matters: People remember how you made them feel, and most people feel rushed around other high performers.
5) Use The “Two-Conversation Rule”
After two conversations, take a 60-second reset.
Step aside. Feel your energy. Feel your feet. Exhale. Let your shoulders drop. Relax your jaw.
Why it matters: Because your system needs micro-integration. Otherwise you start carrying fragments of every person you meet and by conversation seven you’re depleted and slightly irritated for no reason.

6) The Handshake Detox
After intense meetings, don’t scroll. Don’t rush to the next one.
Shake out your hands for 10 seconds like you’re flicking off water.
Then imagine releasing what isn’t yours.
Why it matters: Your hands are one of the fastest discharge points for nervous energy (and yes – you’ll feel lighter immediately).
7) Don’t Carry The Emotional Energy Of The Room
If someone talks at you, complains, tries to impress, dominates, you don’t have to absorb it.
Silently repeat: “This is not mine.”
Stay kind, stay present, but keep your energy with you.
Why it matters: When you are separating your energy from the one of that person you stay calm and centered. This will have an impact on the energy in the room. People around you will feel the difference.

8) End Clean
Instead of exchanging vague promises (“Let’s connect!”), say:
- “I’d love to continue this. Should we do a 20-minute call next week?”
- “What’s the best way to follow up with you?”
- “If I send you one thing, what would be most useful?”
Why it matters: Clean endings prevent energy leaks. And create real results.
9) The Night Reset (Before Your Head Hits The Pillow)
The most important Energy Exercise after a long day at an event is to clean your energy.
- Stand beside your bed.
- Exhale slowly.
- Mentally let the day flow “into the ground” – names, conversations, tension, expectations.
Why it matters: Conference nights are short. Your sleep must be high quality.
Conferences and events are not about collecting people. It’s about creating resonance.
And the truth is: the more you manage your energy, the more powerful your presence becomes, without trying.

How This Helps You At WEF (Or Any Big Event)
At WEF or big conferences people talk about big themes: leadership, resilience, uncertainty, the future.
But you’ll notice something:
The most powerful people are not the busiest ones.
They are the clearest ones.
They don’t look rushed.
They don’t over-explain.
They don’t chase.
And that clarity is a form of energetic leadership.

When your energy is managed, you:
- Notice better opportunities
- Say yes to what fits
- Say no without guilt
- Build connections faster
- And actually remember what happened
You don’t need to become louder. You need be present with your energy.
The real win
Here’s what I want for you: I want you to leave the next big event thinking:
“I stayed with my energy.”
Not: “I survived.”
Not: “I performed.”
Not: “I was busy.”
But: “I took care and followed my energy – and because of that, I met the right people.”
And if you want to take this even deeper, here is the truth:
Conferences don’t reward effort. They reward presence. And presence is energy.

A small invitation
Next time you attend a conference, try one or more of the 9 Energy Hacke. But maybe you also want to do this little experiment:
Before you enter the first room, choose your one word.
And throughout the day, come back to it.
Then watch what changes.
Because when you change your energy…
you change the way you are met.
And that’s when “networking” becomes something else entirely:
It becomes connection, clarity, and momentum.
Because the real advanage in 2026 isn’t knowing more.
It is staying in your energy when everyone else is reacting.
